Not having been
to an event like this before I was pleasantly surprised just
how much fun and entertainment there was today.
There were
plays and skits for visitors going on all day long and each one I visited was
packed wit spectators. There were 100’s of volunteers portraying parts ranging
form Queen Elizabeth Tudor, portrayed by Susie Alexander, to Robin Hood and his
merry men.
One of
the highlights during my visit was getting to meet and speak with Mr. (Sir)
James Acuff who is part of Lords of Chivalry (www.lordsofchivalry.com)
which performs full contact heavy armored jousting and is only 1 of the 4 in
North America that does so.
Mr. Acuff told
me about the sport of jousting and about the beautiful Percheron horses they had
with them and use in their shows. I was surprised and pleased to learn that many
of the horses used in Renaissance shows are rescues that were being pushed aside
because of age or other reasons and were given a new lease on life in their new
role playing the role of War Horses for the Knights.
My thanks to Mr.
Acuff for his very generous times today, Conner Prairie, and all that took part
in today’s Fishers Renaissance Faire during my visit.
