Troopers
from the Pendleton District will continue
enforcement patrols on roadways within Delaware,
Fayette, Henry, Madison, Randolph, Rush, Union and
Wayne counties where in the past, crashes occurred
that were caused by, speeding, following too
closely, unsafe lane movement, failure to yield the
right of way, and operating a motor vehicle while
impaired. The following highways have been
identified as our primary crash reduction effort:
• Delaware County: I-69 33-52 mile-marker, and SR 67
• Fayette County: SR 44
• Henry County: I-70 113-132 mile-marker
• Madison County: I-69 13-33 mile-marker
• Wayne County: I-70 136-156 mile-marker, and US 27
The following highways have also been identified as
our secondary crash reduction effort:
• Randolph County: State and US highways
• Rush County: State and US highways
• Union County: State and US highways
Troopers will utilize marked and unmarked police
vehicles, motorcycle patrols, and Mustangs in their
enforcement efforts.
Lieutenant Bob Burke, commander of the Pendleton
District, has identified the three ways in which
troopers under his command will approach this
endeavor.
• Enforcement of the most common causational crash
factors as identified by the Indiana State Police
Automated Reported Information and Exchange System
(ARIES), with particular emphasis on: speeding,
following too closely, failure to yield the right of
way, unsafe lane movement, and operating a motor
vehicle while impaired.
• Educating motorists through media outlets, and
educational programs for community groups and
driver’s education classes.
• Engineering road factors, that may play a role in
the causation of crashes identified and reported to
the appropriate Indiana Department of Transportation
(INDOT) or local highway department.
Burke said, “Our efforts are a means to reduce the
number, and severity of crashes by increasing public
awareness and gaining voluntary compliance, but we
will not hesitate to take the appropriate
enforcement action.”
