Marlin’s Plant Kingdom – A Very Green Place

Greenfield, Indiana (04/24/2010) – Twenty-Five years ago Ron Marlin followed a dream he had and started growing plants as a hobby. Today it’s a thriving business with what was a 1,000 square foot greenhouse today covers 21,000 feet. Ron said he tells people it’s a hobby that got out of control.

Ron didn’t stop there. A few years ago Ron had another dream. He installed 8 solar panels and a water storage area that helps with heating and cooling the greenhouse. Ron took me on a tour of his solar system and it is amazing.

My visit today was to talk with Ron’s part in the 2010 Spring Farm Tour he is part of this year. He, along with six other Hancock area farms and the Hancock County Harvest Council held an open house for visitor’s to promote buying fresh, buy local and promoting area Farmer’s Markets.

The story I ended up getting was more than I could have ever expected. Ron is a remarkable individual doing some very remarkable things and a person I’m glad to have had an opportunity to meet him.
